On Saturday, June 15, 2024, five choirs of Ukrainian refugees, accompanied by the internationally composed chamber orchestra of the Menuhin Academy Gstaad, organized a Beethoven flash mob on the central Jesuitenplatz in Lucerne.
The "Ode to Joy" was sung with the participation of a large audience that followed the performance. The weather was kind to the more than 50 choir singers and 20 musicians who had traveled to the event, and thus the performance could take place in front of the portal of the baroque Jesuit Church in the center of Lucerne. Shortly after 5 p.m., the performance began with a double bassist and a cellist who played the main theme from Beethoven's last symphony. Soon, other string instruments joined in, followed by the choir in Ukrainian national costumes.
